Problem Solving
We had a great night of problem solving! Many parents came to learn the way we teach this and why in first grade. I am attaching a link to the video from the meeting in case you were unable to attend or if you would like to see it again.
Thank you to everyone who came to make this evening a success!

Field Trip to the Children's Museum
What a perfect day! Friday, October 14th was our first field trip in first grade. We started by going to a park and playing on a hill. The kids were all running and playing and having a great time. All of that running must have made them hungry...we ate lunch at 10!
After lunch we loaded back onto the bus and headed over to the children's museum. We were met there by our museum tour guide. She took us to 5 stations where the kids got to explore, learn and play. It was so neat to see their imaginations at work as they went through all of the stations.
Here are some pictures for you to see and and enjoy. :)

Natural and Artificial Light
We have been discussing light this week. Today, we discussed the difference between natural light and artificial light. The kids found examples of both in magazines.
At dinner tonight, discuss the following question:
Is a candle natural or artificial light? Explain your thinking.
You can type, or have students type their responses to this post and we will share them in class.
I can't wait to hear your discussions!

We've Been Busy Bees!
We are really moving now! We have started centers, are working on an ABC book in writing and have completed two experiments in science! The kids are excited about their work and it shows.
Ask your child what their topic is for their ABC book. We have been working hard on these and the kids are doing great. There are so many great ideas flowing around our classroom.
We have also been discussing different generas of books. Can your child name the 3 generas we have discussed so far?
In math, we have been working on greater than and less than. The kids did great with their first set of math centers. We have also started problem solving!
It has been a busy few weeks with lots of hard work.

Our First Week in First Grade
Wow! I could not have asked for a better week to start the year. I am enjoying getting to know each of my students and already watching them learn and grow. This week we discussed all of our classroom and school expectations. We will continue talking about these throughout the year. We also did literacy centers, math stations and began to explore what it means to be a scientist. We have lots of exciting things planned for next week and I can hardly wait to get started.
I hope you all enjoy a relaxing weekend and I will see you and your kids smiling faces on Monday!

The End of a Wonderful Summer and the Beginning of a Fantastic Year!
What a fantastic Summer this has been! I married my best friend on July 9th and then we spent 2 wonderful weeks on the beautiful island of Anguilla. After returning to Houston I was excited to get back into our routine. I have been spending time at school getting our classroom ready for beginning of school. I am very excited about this year and cannot wait to meet my class!
